My bamboo plant is declining! It looks like it could be overwatered but it shouldnโt be bc I contract watering. She was repotted recently and could be have some repot shock. Too much light? Any help appreciated!! #help #GregGang #LuckyBamboo
Last watered 7 months ago
@LiftLashPlant Several factors can cause a Lucky Bamboo plant (Dracaena sanderiana) to develop yellow leaves, including improper watering, poor water quality, too much direct sun, and issues with nutrients or temperature. Overwatering: Excess moisture, especially if the plant is in soil with poor drainage, can lead to root rot. This prevents the roots from absorbing nutrients and oxygen, causing the leaves to turn yellow and the stalks to become mushy.
Underwatering: If the plant's soil is left to dry out completely, or if the water level in a container is too low, the leaves may turn yellow, curl, or droop.
Wrong water type: Lucky Bamboo is sensitive to the chlorine, fluoride, and mineral salts found in tap water. These chemicals can build up over time and cause the leaves to yellow or develop brown tips. Use distilled, filtered, or rainwater instead.

Hey GiGi I have a few questions to find out exactly why without guessing.
Are you watering with tap water?
Bamboo is super sensitive to
Chlorine and Fluoride, which is added to most water treatment plants. These will cause yellowing leaves.
What window is she in?
North, East or West are good. NO South windows for her or she will get cooked. It's just too much for them.
Bamboo hates being repotted. It will also cause that to happen. Shock can last for months.
Here is a helpful way to remember what to expect any time you transplant bamboo.
After repot:
Year 1, it sleeps, so very little change will be seen.
Year 2, it creeps, so you notice small amounts of growth.
Year 3, it leaps, once the roots have recovered fully and is well established it takes off like wildfire.
Most people go wrong because they want it to bounce back like a normal plant. Then they keep making changes to the environment. Which sets it back so far they can't recover. So slow and steady, be careful not to overwater because they don't drink as much when shocked. You don't want her to suffer root rot because then you have to treat and repot. Not good with bamboo.
She won't bounce back quick, it will take time and a lot of patience. ๐ฉท

I use filtered water and the yellowed leaves were more on the crispy side.
I repotted from soil from a slightly smaller pot where it seemed to be thriving but the window spot was new. (South facing window)
I hope that answered all the questions and thank you all for all the wonderful information and knowledge I appreciate it greatly ๐
I moved her back to the altar across from that window and am hoping that will help!

@LiftLashPlant Definitely was the south facing window. ๐ขI am glad you're using filtered water, great job.
I'm also glad you moved her back to her happy place. Just remember to be patient. It going to take her time to bounce back from the shock of the repot and the temporary change in location. She is going to be very mad at you. Just ignore her tantrum and she will bounce back, as long as you don't make any more changes. ๐ฉท
Sometimes we have make ooupsis to learn what they need.
