The derp in my plant family

#TheSagaOfTinyTim **sigh** there’s always one Derp in every family… we have a Tim Prop who’s decided to be a philodendron and grow an air root looking thing …. I swear carnivores are DERPS. Apart from that all 17 seem to be doing well nice and green. The tip piece is unfurling and has the new one inside πŸ‘Œ a couple more weeks and they can graduate to part popped bags in the big boy tank. Ulysses props update soonish #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #ShareYourProcess #Nepenthes

Where do you get your carnivorous plants from? I really really want some but the ones local are beyond saving.. bc they are literally nothing but rot. So sad. I just don't known what online sellers are legit and worth it. Plus any tips on them would be greatly appreciated β™₯︎
@KrunchyWrapz so far online in Australia, pitcher n Moss have had the best shipped quality. I don’t like most of triffid park stock and have always struggled with their plants when buying them from nurseries so never brought online from them. They seem to ship out old breeders that are at the end of their life span as β€œtall growing sarracenia” when they’re just big and old. You pull the rhizome out and it’s huge, gnarled and usually 3/4 covered in uncleared dead leaves. Australian plants online seem to ave good stock, I’m choosing to believe the sunburned Suki was an aberration and not the norm since the Louisa is perfect and coloured up really well but they did spend longer in transit than the pitcher n moss order. I’m currently waiting on another order and will likely create a post about that too 😝 they’re sending me a replacement plant for the sunburned Suki (Rhonda) but I asked for another Louisa so I should have 2 by the end of the week 😊 I got hold of a ventricosa!!! I’m so excited!! And a Dyeriana which is one of the oldest nepenthes hybrids species and I vaguely remember something about it being one of the first cultivated in Victoria? Gotta google that. I have a maxima and a st Gaya in that order as well. They’re coming from The jungle Collective which seemed to have a lot more variety, larger stock and good pricing than either pitcher n moss or Australian plants online. But I haven’t received those plants yet so no idea. My ventratas, apart from Tim, all came from a local nursery I love 😊 Tim was a Facebook adoption, I paid $70 for him and he ended up being pretty unhealthy when I got him, no pitchers and yellowing a fair bit up about 1/3 of the bottom leaves.

Pretty soon (maybe 2 months) I will be selling off some of Tim’s babies, there’s a link in my Bio for a fb page you can message me through if your ever interested in buying my guys, I won’t post full sale ads here. Greg is for plant love, not monies 🀣 Express post Australia wide starts from like $12 or $15 and most places only charge about that although the jungle collective also have a $5 handling fee so their delivery is technically $15 but you pay $20 on top of your order. Online plant shopping is the best!!
@KrunchyWrapz ohhh I just did a stalk, should have done that first πŸ˜… your bio says you’re in the US… that one I can’t help with but tips and tricks are: invest in demineralised water. It’s better for the plant and beginner growers because you don’t need to watch for mineral build up or leach the soil often. Potted fish tanks offer a larger surface area to keep the moisture up higher than most pots and the glass sides plus a half lid is generally enough to keep them humid and happy if you live somewhere dry. Wrinkles/ruffles can indicate over hydration and bright lime/neon green leaves usually mean not enough light. These are very general for most species but some don’t fit this of course 🀣
@PoisonIvys ugh I know, reading your comment and I saw australia and I was like "well shit there goes that". Our Walmart and Lowe's/home depot sell them but they are either dry to the bone or a big mushy rotten glob. It's ridiculous and I've mentioned to them they should cut the shit and either actually care for them or stop getting them bit, hey! If there's a profit then there is a reason, right? πŸ˜’ greedy greasy lazy c*nts. None of the little nurseries around me have anything remotely close to carnivorous. They recently just began venturing into succulents and finally have the idea of getting more *exotic* or *rare* ones. Other than that it's the same bland ones. I go to one a lot and they actually asked me for a list of some popular plants z(succs/cacti/houseplants/etc) and off the top of my head list apparently was quite overwhelming, bc it gave them a stutter and bewildered look on their face. Among the trillion things I wrote, carnivorous plants were the top ones but doubt they will do those bc they aren't familiar with their care and bc in their eyes they aren't as "showy" as the rest, which is pure poppycock. Most of my plants were obtained through etsy and I recently discovered the fb market which is making me happy but not my poor wallet. Lol I'll definitely keep doing my research on them and be on the hunt. Thank you very much for the tips. I'll definitely check your link out!
@KrunchyWrapz check out cascade carnivores

https://www.cascadecarnivores.com/

I didn't have luck with carnivores but it was a me problem not a plant problem. This shop has fantastic pings

Also if you want more extravagant ones you can check out www.carnivero.com
@KrunchyWrapz I have to strictly budget πŸ˜… this is why I take the human bean sprouts and we find new sad friends on weekends 😊 rescue plants are a hobby πŸ˜… I’m waiting on seed orders from Etsy to try and add variety. We don’t have access to a lot of carnivorous species here which is irritating me no end of I’m being honest. It’s hours of research if I want a specific species and even then they’re usually out of stock
@rjg thank you!!!
