Dahomey Rubbertree
About Dahomey Rubbertree
Did you know that all plants in the Ficus genus produce figs? In fact, the word Ficus quite literally means figs! Even cooler, all figs are pollinated by tiny wasps that use the fruits as a safe place to raise their young. 🐝 Ficus plants also contain latex which emerges as a milky sap when twigs are broken. This latex makes them toxic, so be sure to keep a close eye out if you have children or pets!
Taxonomy
Ficus lutea
Ficus
Moraceae
Rosales
Also known as
Lagos rubbertree, Vogel's fig, West African rubbertree and Giant-leaved Fig

How to fertilize Dahomey Rubbertree
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Dahomey Rubbertree after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Yellow, dropping leaves In the last week I’ve had 3 mature leaves yellow and drop. All leaves were on the side of the plant facing away from the window. I tried rotating it 2 days ago but this morning it lost another leaf and two more look yellow (same side, but now facing the light). It was last watered 5 days ago. We had 2 new leaves immediately after repotting 3 months ago but no new growth since. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. #Ficus

Suddenly, quickly losing all leaves Our plant is losing both old and new leaves at a very fast rate. It’s been thriving for a long time, but we went away for a month this summer and it potentially went without water a few days longer than it normally does. Other than that, we can’t figure out what’s happening. This seems like it happened overnight. We took it out of the pot to look at the roots (pictured) and are not sure if the soil looks bad and moldy, or if that’s normal. It’s definitely looking a little root bound. Please help!

Hello all! How are ya? Well I've got a picture to show you! About a week ago, I chopped Saharas head off because I needed straighter growth from her. She was crooked as the letter S. 😆 So I chopped her all the way except about 1' 1/2". (No leaves left) But I was looking at her today and was so shocked! She has new buds growing!! 4 of them!! Lookie!! She's growing!! #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #fiddleleaffig

My office FLF Hi, this is my lil guy I take care of at work. The red coloring on the veins of the leaf are new, is it something to be worried about? Theres a few like this. I know the red dots are edema, but does this look like anything else? He’s in a West facing window and I water every 2 weeks #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #FiddleLeafFig #PlantTherapy #help

#brunchataudreys Somebody gifted me a rubber plant and since its leaves were drying out, I cut both its leaves, leaving behind a bud. The plant has been the same as it looks in the image from past 1 month. Is it dead? If its alive, is there something I could do to trigger its faster growth? #RubberPlant #FicusElastica
