Shriveling up?

#TephrocactusGeometricus When I got this, the soil was drenched but still looked healthy. I took it out of the pot and let it dry out for 4 days before
repotting. It’s been about 2-3 weeks and it’s starting to wrinkle and is less firm. I watered it and it’s more wrinkly. The top ball is firm and starting to push out white fuzzies. Did I mess up? How do I fix it?
0ft to light, direct
4” pot with drainage
Last watered 8 months ago
were the roots exposed for those 4 days? or just out of a decorative pot. i’m thinking if so it might have killed some roots
@CaringGeropogon they were exposed and drying out. I’m still a little nervous because it’s wrinkly. I’m not sure if I should just toss the bottom and get the little ball in soil.
@PiperCosmo the inside of the rootball may still be alive but i would take the dead roots off to prevent rot
Will do! Thank you for the advice!
@CaringGeropogon okay, stupid question but…after the dead roots are removed, should I immediately repot it or let it β€œrecover” outside the pot for a day or two?
@PiperCosmo i wouldn’t suggest ever leaving the roots exposed cause they will dry out. i’d just repot and then not repot again unless needed
