New spider plant placement

I have a new spider plant and am not sure what she needs in terms of sunlight. I put all of the info into the app, which included being in direct sunlight within 6โ€ of an east-facing window and it indicated that was a good spot. Then I scrolled down to the plant guide which showed no direct sunlight. Where should I put her to keep her healthy? #SpiderPlant #HappyPlants

Hi @JazzyGardeNerd, beautiful plant! I can't wait for my spider plant to grow up ๐Ÿคฃ

I think it really depends on how sunny your window gets. At my house my east facing windows get very minimal sun and usually only in the mornings because of how our neighborhood is set up.

If your window gets a lot of sun during the day, it might cause your spider plant to get a little crispy/burnt.

I would just pay attention to the sunlight for a few days. If it seems too intense you can move your plant back.
I have a few and they enjoy indirect sunlight
My spider plants thrive beautifully outside in the summer, hanging in the sun. They love it so much they protest all winter inside, with some brown leaves and donโ€™t hardly grow. Then they get going and get super healthy all summer in the sun each year.
I have east facing spider plant also. I find it does better from direct sunlight. From NH
I have several spider plants. Two I have hanging beside East facing windows, and one beside a West facing window, I do have them supplemented with grow lights since they are grouped with other plants and, unfortunately, not much window space. They're thriving, and don't like to be relocated, water when soil is mostly dry. Spider plants like indirect light, bright sunlight burns their leaves.
@Sassylimey Sarah, I respectfully disagree. My spider plants thrive in the direct sunlight I put them in, outside, every summer. They barely tolerate being inside in the winter, giving me brown leaves especially at first, then growing large and strong again out in the sun. And you are in Ohio too, so I donโ€™t get it.
@JovialCaitlin Thanks, Caitlin. She seems fine now. Iโ€™m in Maryland, just outside of DC and with the intense heat the past few weeks, have kept the blinds down so sheโ€™s been getting mostly filtered light. Sheโ€™s happy, my other direct sunlight-loving plants less so. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’š
@Charli3Plant Thanks, Charlie! Sheโ€™s been good with the filtered light.
@AC73LoveCats Hi Jane. Spiders are such amazing plants. I do know that when I tried to move a couple of mine to a different spot they threw a fit and gave me brown leaves and looked awful. I put them back in the same places they had been and they're thriving. I've never put any of my houseplants outside. My daughter has her spiders outside in Ohio and they almost died!
Maybe your spiders don't like the move inside for winter, I think they just don't like being relocated, lol... They can be so finicky ๐Ÿ˜‚
These three start to thrive whenever they are first taken out; it can be seen in a few days. They were in bad shape inside this last winter and I thought they wouldnโ€™t make it. They definitely have trouble adjusting to being inside but really do love being in the sun. Go figure! Sometimes they are just a mystery! Yours look gorgeous! @Sassylimey
@AC73LoveCats they look so happy and healthy! ๐Ÿ’š
@AC73LoveCats WOW your spiders are gorgeous. It's amazing how plants seem to adapt to the care they receive in different environments. They certainly have their own personalities lol!!
@JazzyGardeNerd Thank you!
@Sassylimey Yes, they sure seem to. Thank you! Here are some pics of them outside from later in summers.
