In the wild they don't grow in soil, they attach themselves to tree bark or rocks. They don't absorb water through their roots like other plants (what little roots they have are purely for anchoring them to surfaces), instead they absorb it through their leaves from the air (hence their name). Soaking your air plant in room-temp water once a week for 15-20 min is perfect ๐Ÿ˜
Hi Linette I have quite a few air plants and they are sitting on either small Leca balls or gravel. I use a dishpan and put them all in, fill with water (and add fertilizer every other watering), and let them sit for up to an hour - I have around 13.

@ZingBushhoya12 the one on the left is tiny Le a balls and the square pot is all small pebbles I think I got from Home Depot. I also have some aquarium gravel in a couple. Lol I change them up a lot ๐Ÿซข
