Potting mixes??

Hi! I recently made a mistake and bought a huge bag of topsoil 😓
Do you think I can mix it with perlite and bark (or something else?) and still create nice soil for my house plants?
Most of them are tropical (pothos, monstera, syngonium, etc.)
@GivingBeech Hey! I've got a few suggestions! For trees, shrubs and roses, mix perlite with the soil when backfilling the planting hole to stimulate root growth. But the disadvantages of using perlite: They are: 1) perlite has a limited capacity for supplying water; under conditions where plants are transpir- ing rapidly, water may become limiting; and 2) under acidic pH's and possibly other undetermined conditions Al may be released into the solution in toxic. So it actually depends on what the plant will be. Hope this helps. Have a good day! 💚 ☘️ ✨️
You could, but it wouldn’t be as good. I would get a new fresh bag of good potting soil & just mix the top soil in with a bit of perlite as a 1:3 ratio. Give yourself 2/3 potting soil, 1/3 top soil & a bit of perlite to give ya that extra drainage. That way you still use it, but you’ll get all the nutrients you’ll need meanwhile using mostly good stuff. I use top soil on my yard to level the uneven plane but it definitely doesn’t have the quality you’ll want.
I wouldn’t use it. It won’t provide the nutrients your plants need. Here’s some info ℹ️. Topsoil is best used for outdoor projects where the root systems have space to expand rather than being confined to a container. Using topsoil for plants in pots will mean that your plant won't get the nutrients it needs to grow and will more than likely die sooner than expected.May 4, 2022
