Venus fly traps need a ton of direct sunlight and should only be watered with distilled or rain water. Bottom watering is the recommended methodβ€”place the pot in a saucer or dish that's at least an inch wider than the pot and comes up at least an inch on the sides. Fill the dish with distilled water whenever you notice it's empty. Top watering can cause them to rot, and tap water has too many salts and minerals that will end up killing them. I'd highly recommend reading up on Venus fly trap care, since they have very specific needs. California carnivores is a fantastic resource:
