@saarrrr82 Absolutely Crassula plants, like jade plants, can be propagated from their leaves. This method is common for succulents, as their leaves store ample nutrients and moisture, aiding in root and new plant development.
Here's how to propagate Crassula from leaves:
1. Select a healthy leaf:
Choose a mature, firm leaf that is intact and shows no signs of disease or damage.
2. Remove the leaf:
Gently twist or break off the leaf from the stem, ensuring you get the entire leaf with the small pointed bit where it connects to the stem, as this helps with rooting.
3. Allow the leaf to callus:
Place the leaf in a warm, dark place for a few days, or until the cut end develops a callus (a hardened area). 4. Propagate in soil or water:
Soil: Fill a small pot with well-draining succulent mix. Lay the leaf flat on top of the soil, with the callused end gently nestled into the mix.
Water: Place the leaf in a glass of water, ensuring the cut end is submerged. You can use a humidity dome for this method.
Although I find the soil method is usually more successful. 5. Provide optimal conditions:
Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy, and the leaf in bright, indirect light.
6. Monitor for growth:
After a few weeks, you should see roots forming, and eventually, new plantlets developing. Additional Tips: Use a well-draining potting mix.
Ensure the leaf is fully healthy and intact.
Avoid overwatering, especially when the leaf is establishing roots.
Consider using a rooting hormone to encourage root growth. Hope this helps, Happy Growing!!
