What, already time to repot?!
Just brought home this lovely addition and got my first full look at the container he's in, and whew, all kinds of roots coming out the bottom of the (plastic) pot. I hesitate to jump directly to thoughts of repotting, but... is this normal for this species? All advice welcome...
6β pot with drainage
Last watered 5 days ago
Can you post a photo of the roots? And maybe check that is the roots growing all around the succulent instead of just water roots coming from the bottom.
I think if theyβre a little root bound it should be fine. But not too sure @SirLiquorice

Most cacti and succulents seem to be able to grow in places where the roots donβt have much room. But if it seems to be outgrowing the pot and roots are coming out the bottom then it sounds like itβs looking for more soil to root in to look for water. I would probably repot it in a slightly bigger pot. But you probably donβt need to rush it. Many grow in rocks and cracks in the side of rock walls and donβt have much room for the roots. And after I repot I wait at least 3-7 days to water to give the roots time to heal before watering. Looking at the pic it does appear to have outgrown the pot so I would consider repotting soon. Just repot in a pot thatβs a little bigger.
Hi all and thank you so much -- here are the roots, and also the top for good measure, because that too looks crowded. (To me. To some one who knows what they're doing, perhaps not?) I am inclined to wait at least a couple of weeks to be sure it's adapted to this new space -- home for Pugsley 24 hours ago was a grocery store -- and then repot to maybe a 3.5"?
Thank you again!!
(For the record, I did note to the clerk at the store that putting unusual plants up for adoption near the checkout line constitutes entrapment. Alas, they also have multiple Kalanchoe thyrsiflora sitting there too, and I am out of orange juice, so... it's going to be one of those weekends.)
