Hi!! I keep all of my venus fly traps in a 2:1 mix of peat moss and perlite. I've also seen people grow them well in pure long fibered sphagnum moss.
I’m no expert in carnivorous, so others might know best, but here goes: for Venus Fly Traps, the best soil mix is one that mimics their natural environment, which is nutrient-poor, acidic, and well-draining. A common mix used by carnivorous plant enthusiasts is a 1:1 ratio of sphagnum peat moss and perlite or sand. Avoid using regular potting soil, fertilizers, or anything that contains added nutrients, as these can harm the plant. The peat moss provides the necessary acidity and moisture retention, while the perlite or sand helps with drainage and aeration, preventing the roots from sitting in waterlogged conditions.
@KennisTheMenace half and half mix of nutrient free peat moss and perlite. You can grow them in straight sphagnum moss as well. Just remember to keep the rhizome above the water line!
Ty for info
@KennisTheMenace I would also suggest a mineral free substrate using such components as pure peat moss and permit mix. Check out the posts at #cpclubthursday where I have discussed VFT requirements in various old posts.
I have mine in peat moss and perlite so I guess that’s the norm for them.
Ty all for the help.. I'm definitely transplanting in the morning.
I personally use all sphagnum moss on two of my VFTs.
