Repotting Black Eyed Susan

#BlackeyedSusanVine Hello fellow plant lovers! I have a BES and it's on a cute trillis but I want to replant in a bigger pot . What's the best way to replant it with the vines all tied to the trellis it's hard to get out of the pot. Do I have to replace the trellis do it has more room to grow?
To repot your Black-Eyed Susan Vine (Thunbergia alata) while keeping it on the existing trellis, here’s a step-by-step method that minimizes stress on the plant:

βΈ»

βœ… Best Way to Repot with Vines on Trellis:
1. Water First
Water the plant thoroughly a few hours before repotting. This softens the soil and reduces transplant shock.
2. Keep the Trellis Attached
Since the vines are already trained, do not untie them. You can transplant the whole setupβ€”plant, potting soil, and trellisβ€”as one unit.
3. Support the Trellis
Have someone hold the trellis steady, or gently tie it upright to a stake during the process to avoid breaking any vines.
4. Loosen the Pot
Tilt the pot gently and squeeze the sides (if it’s plastic) to loosen the root ball. Carefully slide the root ball out while guiding the trellis along with it.
5. Transfer into Larger Pot
Place fresh well-draining soil in the bottom of the new, larger pot. Set the root ball in, and fill in around it, ensuring the trellis is still upright and stable.
6. Stake or Upgrade Trellis (Optional)
If your current trellis is small, this is a good time to either:
β€’ Add a second trellis to give more vertical growth room.
β€’ Anchor the current trellis into the new pot more securely.
β€’ Use a tomato cage or obelisk for taller, fuller growth.
7. Water After Repotting
Water deeply and place the plant in partial sun to recover for a day or two before returning to full sun.

🌿 Bonus Tip:

If growth seems restricted later, you can cut back any dead or spindly vines and gently guide new ones up a taller trellis.
Thanks Ken!
