First time plant parent

I have a golden pothos and I’ve read that they’re pretty good for first timers and are resilient. So I ordered this plant on 8/5/25 and received it on 8/12/25 it came in a beat up box and there were some yellow leaves that I removed, but I see that some stems and leaves have brown in them.. is it okay or do I need to do something about it? It also has a self watering system that I don’t understand. I’m not sure how much water to put in it. I’ve also read to clean the leaves with soap water so that’s what I’m doing now. Please help ! I’m clueless lol also what do I do about the ripped leaves?

Sorry your plant got a beating! 😞πŸͺ΄ Thankfully, pothos ARE very resilient (my mother had one for 14 years in a tiny pot with hardly any care πŸ˜…) so it should be alright. Trim the damaged parts with shears or scissors that have been wiped down with rubbing alcohol so the plant isn’t contaminated by anything on the cutting tool prior (Think of it as if a doctor used tools in surgery that were previously used to cut dusty cardboard.. 😬) as for self watering pots, I barely understand them πŸ˜‚ basically from what I know theres a compartment in the bottom of the pot that holds water and it gets soaked up into the soil so it lasts longer. make sure the soil is dry before watering again! Congrats on the new plant baby πŸ₯°
@Uzi thank you thank you! Ordering some shears now πŸ₯°
