Brown around petals
I am new to gardening and just picked up some potted Azaleas. Both plants petals are turning brown around their edges. Does anyone know how to fix or what is wrong?
Hi Rachel! Unfortunately it looks like your beautiful new friend may have petal blight ☹️ This is a fungal infection particularly common in azaleas. I’d make sure to prune off all the affected blooms immediately to avoid it spreading to the newer growth on the plant, then treating it with an eco fungicide spray every 12-14 days until the discolouration ceases. Try to make sure you save as many leaves on the plant as possible though, even if you end up having to prune off most of the blooms as the plant will need these to continue photosynthesis and store energy and nutrients for new, healthier growth. I’d consider pampering your azaleas throughout this period by applying unsweetened honey to the ends of any pruned stems and perhaps adding a small amount of coffee grounds to the soil to help boost its recovery rate. Don’t panic, this is a common problem with an easy fix and I’m sure your azaleas will be thriving again in no time! I hope this helps and best of luck 🪴
