Kalanchoe leaves going yellow /crunchy?
The app says not to water dor another 3 days but the leaves look crispy and yellow? Should I water early
@KnightMyrtleoak What does the soil feel like? Kalancho are considered succulents, they like their soil to dry out before watering it. When the app tells you that it's time to water think of it as a reminder that it's about time to check the soil. If it's still wet snooze the plant by swiping left. The app will bring the plant back around in a few days for you to check it again, but don't ever blindly water without checking on the soil first. In my opinion the easiest way to check, other than putting a finger down into the soil, is by using a wooden chopstick or skewer. Placing it directly down into the pot. When the stick is removed there shouldn't be any soil stuck to it nor should it be wet to the touch. Only water when it comes out dry. Kind of like checking your oil in your car you can see how much of the pots soil is wet by looking at the stick and holding it next to the pot. I should have asked earlier but does the pot have a drainage hole in the bottom? If not you'll definitely need to replant it into a pot with a hole, preferably into some succulent soil mixed with perlite. It's well draining and allows the water to flow freely through the roots and won't hold onto water in the pot which will cause the plant to get root rot. ππ
@princesspitstop it has drainage and the soil is rock hard bone dry
@KnightMyrtleoak Then I would definitely water it thoroughly until you see water coming out of the bottom.
@KnightMyrtleoak I'm now wondering if the soil is hydrophobic. When was the last time you watered it?
@princesspitstop the 3rd June. Iβve watered it and the water has come quite quickly out of the bottom
@KnightMyrtleoak It looks like it could use an up pot. You might want to consider repotting it into a pot that's 1 to 2 inches larger than the root ball and into some Succulent soil soon. It doesn't have to be done immediately. It doesn't look like it's in distress but before the growing season is over or it will have to be in the current pot through the winter and you'll want to give it some room to stretch out a bit and you won't have to water it as often.
@princesspitstop thank you for this! I repotted it and sat it in water and it seems to be doing much better this week!
@KnightMyrtleoak Oh wonderful π I'm so glad.
