Too much water. Are you using well draining cactus soil? As Kinsley noted, cut above the brown part & replant the top.

Iβd probably chop the top off, dip it into some rooting hormone, and give it some new soil. I donβt think the brown part is salvageable. Happy growing!

If itβs 8 ft from a window heβs not getting enough light, so it canβt use the water you give it. Aloes need a lot of light.
