First time

#Echeveria

Hello,
I recently got an echeveria as a gift 3 days ago. I'm researching how to take care an echeveria, my first time, the condition base on the image. Have small dark green parts like stained, the soil doesn't feel dry when touching it at least from the bottom, and there are dead leaves under it with dark pink grey and brown. Any ideas from anyone who have experience taking care an echeveria? This includes during cold weather, so it's stays indoors.

I appreciate anyone responding, have a good morning.

Hi Francisco! Echeveria is a succulent, so it needs lots of direct sun and should only be watered when the soil is completely dry. Watering is probably the most important aspect of caring for this plant. The most common reason folks kill their Echeverias is overwatering, which will cause it to rot. I'd recommend repotting soon, since the soil and pot they come in is not the best. Get some succulent/cacti soil, a bag of perlite, and a terracotta pot no more than 2 inches bigger than its current pot. Terracotta is ideal for succulents because it's porous and allows the soil to dry out faster. Mix the soil and perlite together (3 parts succulent soil, 1 part perlite), fill the new pot with soil, set your echeveria on top, and gently pat down the soil to secure it. You can gently remove the dried out leaves at the base while repotting too. The best spot is a west or south facing window, but really anywhere that gets at least 3-4 hours of direct sun is perfect. The more sun, the better! Remember to always check the soil before watering to make sure it's dried out, and that's pretty much it! Good luck with your beautiful new plant and welcome to Greg! ๐Ÿ’š
