@BossAposeris63 For a moon cactus, the best practice is to repot into a container that is only 1โ2 inches larger in diameter than its current pot. Because these are slow-growing, grafted plants with small root systems, they prefer to be slightly crowded; a pot that is too large will hold excess moisture, significantly increasing the risk of root rot. Recommended Pot Sizes
Seedlings: Ideal pot sizes are typically 2โ4 inches in diameter.
Mature Plants: Mature moon cacti generally need pots between 4โ6 inches.
Maximum Size: Most moon cacti are rarely seen in pots larger than 4โ5 inches when planted alone, as the top grafted portion usually only reaches about 4 inches across. When and How to Choose
Check for Roots: Only repot if you see more roots than soil or if roots are beginning to grow out of the drainage holes.
Depth: Opt for shallow pots rather than deep ones. Moon cacti have compact root systems that spread horizontally rather than deep into the soil.
Material: Terra-cotta is highly recommended because its porous nature allows moisture to evaporate more quickly, protecting the plant from "wet feet".
Drainage: Always ensure the new pot has at least one drainage hole (ideally 2โ3) to allow excess water to escape.
