@ImpishLatetulip Hi and Welcome to Greg! How sweet of you to go to this trouble to be able to take care of your sister's plant! 🫢🏻
Your cactus is actually a succulent and is a Gasteraloe Flow, if I had to guess, because I bought the same thing, even a red one, a few years ago. And it's not really red. It's been spray painted and will wash off. It actually needs to be done so it can absorb the sun and grow! You can take it out of the pot and hold only the plant, not the roots, under some warm running water and gently rub it off.

It probably needs to be watered, if you haven't already. These guys like their soil dry so let it dry out completely before you water it again. How often that will be depends on many things: location, size of the pot (which again if I had to guess it needs repotted), etc. It's best to stick your finger in the soil and feel if the soil is wet. If you feel moisture, hold off on watering. If it's dry to your first knuckle (since it's a little guy) go ahead and water it until you see water coming out of the bottom of the pot.

If you see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot it needs repotted. Only go up one size, to a 4", and terracotta is best for these guys.

I know that seems like a lot of information but you got this! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask, just tag me. Hope this helps and Good Luck πŸ€πŸ’š
