With Aralias, they don't like to dry out too much but they also don't like wet feet. I generally water mine when the soil is dry about an inch or two deep. If you notice the leaves starting to wilt it's definitely time to water. No direct sunlight also. That will burn their leaves. I keep mine in an east facing window with a grow light and they love it!
