From experience, I have learned not to mess with my Venus flytrap. If the traps get triggered and they're not supposed to, they can die.

When my Venus flytrap has black traps or black leaves, I take a small, clean pair of scissors and snip them off. That will allow the energy to go back to the plant instead of being spent on a dead leaf. ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ ๏ฟผ

i'm glad you found Greg, Kayleigh! ๏ฟผ
Oh! And Venus fly traps can get chemical Burns very easily which will cause the traps in the leaves to blacken and die. They like rainwater, fish tank water, or distilled water. They are very susceptible to every chemical. ๏ฟผ
The traps die off over time and after they've been set off a couple times they will die. You never want to intentionally set them off because it costs energy every time and if they aren't getting a meal then it's a waste. As pitchers die off new ones will grow in! It's completely normal! They love direct sunlight and lots of water...you can put the pot in a bowl of distilled, reverse osmosis, or rain water just keep the rhizome out of the water because they don't like and it can kill them! If you've watered with tap you can flush the soil with one of the types of water I've listed because minerals and fertilizer will burn its roots and kill it...they get their fertilizer from the bugs they catch! Also they do require a winter dormancy!
