They do like lots of light so if you have it in partial shade that could be the reason. Is it in a container outside or in the ground? Also it blooms from February through May so yours may not be an early bloomer. Or if itβs very young, or if it had a rough winter outside it may delay producing flowers. It takes a lot of energy to flower. πΌ
@beam Hello it looks like it has a black spot fungus regardless of blooms or not youβll want to treat to avoid the whole bush from having ugly black spots . Captain Jackβs copper fungicide or like products will rid you of that . Depending where you are like the above poster pointed out it just not be time . Do you fertilize it ? This too will encourage blooms. Good luck
@ILoveMyPlants How often should I spray it with copper fungicide? What kind of fertilizer would be best? Thanks!
@MariansOasis Itβs in the ground and in partial shade. Thanks for the info!
@beam Hey Ted I use miracle grow outdoors but here in the plant community I will be boo gooβs for that . Iβd look around Amazon they may have a particular for this . With the fungicide I use them when watering the spray isnβt would cost you a fortune. All directions are on the products . I say that cuz they all have different needs . Good luck π
@LeadPurei78 Thanks, Brenda. Anything I can do to improve drainage if itβs already in the ground?
@beam if youβre going to move it do it sooner rather than later. Better when itβs still spring with cooler temps and some spring showers π§οΈ πΌ. Itβll have a better chance. I think youβll find too itβll be less prone to diseases when itβs out in the sunshine. Just protect it from a harsh change if you can. If it needs fungicide treatment it may be sensitive to direct sunlight. Iβm not sure if copper fungicide can cause light sensitivity π€·ββοΈ. Maybe Debbie @ILoveMyPlants knows?
@beam being in the ground, drainage should be fine. Itβs when itβs in a container with no drainage, thatβs when root rot can occur. Because itβs in the ground you may want to change that detail to YES it has drainage. Otherwise Greg will suggest a watering schedule with fewer waterings due to *no drainage*. Except that you have natures drainage, the ground π. Some soils can be horrible with drainage but itβs usually clay soil, compacted soil or peat soil. If your garden soil isnβt any of those you should be fine.
@beam No need for drainage itβs in the ground. As @MariansOasis mentioned early spring is the time to transplant if thatβs what it needs. Honestly Iβd leave it be and start fertilizer and see what happens itβs well established. The fungicide I use for outdoor plants is the rose black spot disease. But thatβs me I got rid of the fungus on my primrose and black eyed Susanβs so I assume itβs gentle enough to use every few days or as directly . Iβve never had an issue using treatment in or out of sun . I wouldnβt feed on same time as using treatment in. Fertilizer can be used right now in your area and two or three more times throughout growing season. Also you may want to trim it up good this to will help with new healty growth.
