why are my leaves doing this??
my leaves keep getting these yellow/ lighter green spots on them. unfortunately, i did have spider mites, but i took care of them. even my newest leaves are suffering. what’s going on??
10ft to light, indirect
7” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 months ago
@planthoe40 okay, so i’ll have to redo its soil and what not for the spider mites and fungus for sure! thanks!
@lynnluvsplants this looks like thrips damage to me. Many pesticide treatments for thrips and other pests can make spider mite populations explode, but I'm 95% sure this is thrips and not spider mites.
@stephonicle shut up right now. i checked for thrips and nothing, did have spider mites tho (rip)
@stephonicle also, shut up right now is in a PLEASE SHUT UP OMG OMG OMG way
@lynnluvsplants lol I hear ya 😜 Thrips are VERY hard to see. The only ones you can spot are the larval ones that look like tiny cream colors dots, and you really need a magnifying glass to spot them moving around. Thrips lay their eggs inside the leaf tissue, and when they hatch they eat their way through the leaves, causing these type of stippled markings.
@stephonicle oh shoot. well, i’m currently at work so i’ll check again when i get home :(
@stephonicle yes, i did have black dots…i also had webbing between the tops of the leaves. i washed good and then been watching close… :(
@lynnluvsplants the black dots are thrips poop 💩 Definitely keep it isolated, thrips are a giant pain to treat, mainly because you have to repeat treatment every few days for at least a month to make sure you get all the life stages. A solid approach is alternating between insecticidal soap and Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew. Definitely DON'T use systemics, they're the ones can make the spider mites population explode 🤯
@stephonicle okay awesome!!!! love this for me 😍
@stephonicle just got home, yep, and i found out multiple plants are infested 😍 idk if you’ve seen my other posts about my plant massacre, but this might be my final straw
@lynnluvsplants I haven't, but I know the struggle and you have my sympathies! 😭 🥰Thrips and spider mites at the same time is like a cruel joke from the plant gods lol 😜 If instead of giving up & burning your house down you decide to engage in all-out warfare, I'd first assess which plants have the most serious damage, and of those which ones would be easier to replace 😕 On the plus side, it seems most of your plants are large and fairly mature, which gives them a much better chance of surviving the one-two punch of thrips + spider mites. Every time I've dealt with a particular pest, I come out of it grateful for the learning experience and confident that should they ever return, I'll be able to spot the signs right away and get a head start on treatment. But it definitely sucks when you're in the thick of it 😣 If you have any questions or need help along the way, feel free to tag me or another community member @SuperbRaspfern is the best!!) and we'll do our best to guide you through the darkness & despair 😉💚
@stephonicle i appreciate you to the max! unfortunately, i am VERY attached to the plant i posted and i haven’t been able to find another one as good, so i will stick by her. just left lowe’s and i got both of the things you told me. i dont like to use too many chemicals so im excited to see they’re both organic!!!!!! how often should i use both?
@lynnluvsplants I'd start with the dead bug brew, then hit it with the insecticidal soap tomorrow. After that, alternate between the two treatments every 4-5 days. I'd also recommend creating a calendar entry so you know when it's been a month. That's how long thrips life cycle is, and if you stop treatment too early the eggs laid inside the leaves will hatch and you'll have to deal with it all over again.
@stephonicle perfect!!! thanks bunches :)))
