Concerned tree isn't taking.

I planted it in the front yard on June 1st. Looks like the leaves are curling and a little dry. Need more water?
Last watered 1 year ago
Hi Augustine, being in south Texas, the heat and it being in full sun is what’s curling the leaves. I’m in central Texas and tried a redbud but the full sun spot I put it in was too much and it died. Does yours get any shade- particularly in the late afternoon when the sun is its hottest? Also, regular watering- every 7 days for the first year is important.
No shade unfortunately. How do you think I can help my tree?
I had read that curling leaves was from under watering.
Yes underwatering is also a cause- there are a few causes- drought, heat, pests, nutrient deficiency… it says to keep the soil moist allowing it to dry out slightly. It looks like you dug a good sized hole and filled with draining soil. I know Greg says to water every β€œβ€¦β€ days- but I have to go by when the soil starts to dry. We have the same heat- so around 3:30 in the pm, if the sun is out- I put an umbrella on my young (under 1 year) plants, and I take it off after 6pm. But that’s me! I’m sure more Greggers will give you more info/advice as the day goes on. Oh- ts been 12 days since you planted it…it could be stress but I’m not positive. Be sure to look for pests too- Aphids can suck the sap from the leaves causing the curl. I hope this helps.
