@Devsleafypals If u scroll down to "about me" under "tips" it will tell u if u need a different type of pot (its usually when u need more porous pot which usually means terra cotta). If the section doesn't address the type then ur ok but yes repot after a few weeks of receiving plant (after stress relief) so ur plant is allowed to grow!
Terracotta is too dry for a violet. They like moisture, but they don't like being soggy. I have 13 and I keep mine in plastic self-watering pots, using african violet soil with about 1/3 perlite added in. That current pot is way too big! Violets like their roots to be snug. Their roots do grow out more than down, so a shallower pot is fine. A good rule of thumb for violets: the pot size should be 1/3 the spread of the leaves. For example, if your violet stretches 12 inches across, the pot size should be 4 inches. That's harder to do with baby violets, but they do grow fast at that stage. I have some violets in 2 inch pots, and a couple in 5 inch pots. Oh, and when possible, wait to repot when the violet isn't in bloom. Hope this helps!
