To water or not to water?
I rescued this little guy from the Lowes death row on Saturday. It came in a pot with another, similar one, but I decided to separate them today because this one was super wrinkly and soft, and the other one smooth and firm. It was already wrinkly and soft at the time that I got them. So what Iβm wondering is:
1) is it a lithops??? It doesnβt have the characteristic flat top. Neither does the other one.
2) should I water it??? Thereβs no sign of new leaves emerging from the middle, and all the watering guides for lithops talk about side wrinkles vs top wrinklesβ¦ but mine doesnβt have a flat top!
The soil was bone dry, if that helps, and the roots look healthy.

@Succulent_Soul The roots were super dry!
@FitPeyote39 it is a split rock succulent. Very similar watering requirements to lithops. If it was absolutely bone dry and this wrinkled, but not mushy, I would give it a nice big drink of water. π¦
And for later, if it does recover and grow, you water them when you feel the inside pair of leaves is slightly soft. Iβm assuming you would follow this same cue when yours only has one pair of leaves π€ but Iβve only experienced double pairs. Good luck!!

@FitPeyote39 You have a split rock and yes as stated above in the lipoth family . Itβs recommended to water when the leaves start getting wrinkly on sides . Your poor baby looks parched. If it were mine I would water from the top to be sure you get the roots whet . The roots are normally short . With any other plant Iβd bottom water but these babies live on the desert floor and only get watered when it rains . hope it perks up . If it was two heads on one root system itβs not recommended to cut anything out . But to let them feed from the water stored in leaves .
@ILoveMyPlants I watered it! It was two separate heads and root systems when I separated them.
@ILoveMyPlants I watered it around 7am this morning, itβs 7pm now and itβs still just as wrinkly and soft. Should I water it again tomorrow?
