Future Fig Planning

Hey there! I got this fig tree in the early spring and it’s doubled in size over the past 3 months. 😳 🌳πŸ’ͺ🏻

Unfortunately, I do t live in a climate where keeping him outdoors in winter is an option. Hell have to spent at least 2, maybe 3, months indoors. The pot he’s in is an old one, and it’s cracked on the back (and ugly… πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸ»). I’m trying to think of ways to repot him in a larger planter that’s easier to carry and affordable.

Has anyone here tried fabric grow basket/buckets? I’ve included some screenshots of ones I’ve seen online, and I’m curious to see if folks have seen success with them.

My partner has been calling local grocery stores to see if they have 10 gallon buckets they’re getting rid of, but some other planty person keeps beating us to them. πŸ’©

Another option I’ve seen is putting drainage drainage holes into the bottom of those rope handle buckets that I remember living in over the summers in the 90s. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸ»

Any advice? 😁

Hi Elisabeth! I live in Texas and sometimes our winters get ice stormss and snow, so all of my plants have to come in. Last summerr my husband built me a small greenhouse, so my big ones go in there. I tried those fabric grow buckets, and I HATED them. First time I watered….water was everywhere. I had them on plant dishes- water was everywhere. Not only that, but once they got wet, they stayed wet. They were so stinky, and eventually the black mold came. All my plants died. I have never looked back. Now- I go on Amazon and buy Plant Dollies. I have 2 kinds- one that catches water, other one doesn’t. I can move my plants anywhere- over carpet and tile- no problem. I’m a 100% Disabled Vet, so these are great! This is just MY experience with those icky things lol! Hopefully someone else has had better luck. Here’s a photo of the Dollys I got…in case you’re interested.
@SillyPlantGirl Oh my gosh, thanks SO much! That sounds HORRIBLE, and I am very glad I e been spared the trouble of finding this out on my own. πŸ˜‚πŸ™…πŸ»
