Pilea refuses to grow
My pilea refuses to grow and I canβt seem to figure out why. The leaves are curled downwards and have a few cracks. Itβs looked like this for months without change. I rooted it in water and potted it in SEPTEMBER, it hasnβt grown since.
It was unhappy directly beside my south window, and is equally unhappy 7ft away from it. Iβve tried watering less, watering more, using tap water, filtered water, hydrogen peroxide, anything i can think of at this point and it hasnβt affected the plant whatsoever. The most painful part is that it also refuses to die! Itβs genuinely looked the exact same for months, not declining but not improving.
Iβll take any suggestions I can get at this point! Has anybody else dealt with a stubborn pilea?? #Pilea #NewGrowth #help

2β pot with drainage
Last watered 2 years ago
@S.ham13 thank you!! It isnβt near a humidifier, I wanted to move it into the shower but right now thatβs my pest quarantine area haha. Ill try putting a plastic bag over it for now to see if that helps! Thank you for the tips!
Also good luck with your potting! Donβt let mine scare you too much, I think part of my issue comes from it getting root-rot as a water prop. I treated it right before potting and it never forgave meπ

@AwesomePlants thank you Iβm going to try this next!
@Seedstarter thank you Iβll keep that in mind!
@SpiffyGonolobus unfortunately this is the smallest pot I had available, all my 1.5in pots are occupied so itβs in a 2inπ
Iβll attach photos of how it looked before/after potting. After the roots photo I removed the dark ones and left it in water a little longer. After potting it lost the larger leaves and hasnβt budged since.
Iβll see if adding some fertilizer helps aswell. Iβm also in the process of setting up my new grow light so Iβll make sure he gets a spot under it! Thank you for the response!

@pothosslut unfortunately I donβt have any smaller pots available right now but when one opens up Iβll see if moving it helps! Thanks for the tip!
Oh she's tinier than I imagined!! Grow lights and fertilizer are a great idea - that will help! Also spring is hopefully on its way near you (idk, I'm in southern California so winter means 60Β° and sometimes rain, winter there is much different I'm sure!!) which will hopefully give some much needed weather and light! βΊοΈβΊοΈ
@thingsNstuff you can grow the plant in a paper cup with LECA at the bottom if you can't find a smaller pot. Too much soil in the pot may end up soil too wet.
I grow my baby syngonium in a paper juice box because the plant is small. I made some holes at the bottom with LECA balls covering the holes.

@thingsNstuff What helped mine was giving it more light and putting a clear glass over it. Same idea as the plastic bag over the top. After I do that, mine grew A LOT! GL! π
@SunnyPlants thank you!! Iβm adding the bag overtop today so fingers crossed this is the secretπ€
@SpiffyGonolobus thanks for the suggestion!! Unfortunately thatβs still around the same size itβs in now but Iβll definitely keep this trick in mind!! Can always use more baby pots:)
