Pot size

I'm fairly new to cacti what is the best pot size to replant this in and will I need a bigger one over the years?
I’m pretty sure following the 2 inch ( I think ) from plant to pot is usually the best method for sizing up.
Yes, as the plant grows and gets bigger you'll need to upsize its pot. Like @FabRubbercup mentioned, the guideline for pot size is that the new pot shouldn't be more than 2-3" bigger than the previous pot. A pot that's too big for a plant can lead to overwatering.

Cacti are slow growers, so you'll only need to upsize maybe every 3-5 years. Also, pots made of terracotta are the best choice for cacti because they're porous, which helps the soil dry out faster. The most common way new plant parents kill their cactus is by overwatering. When in doubt, always err on the side of watering less frequently. For this particular plant, get a 3" terracotta pot and also a bag of cactus/succulent soil.
The great thing about cacti is that you generally don’t (never?) have to worry about going bigger. I had a few small ones in a way-to-giant bowl for years and they did great. The only thing is that with some there may be a depth factor.
