Bromeliads have shallow root systems and are susceptible to root rot if their roots are constantly wet. You can use plain old orchid mix
which is a popular choice for bromeliads as it's designed for plants that prefer loose, well-draining conditions.
I like to make my own mix so I combined 1 part regular soil containing bat guano and worm castings and I added 2 parts peat moss. Thatβs my base, then I mixed in equal parts of orchid bark perlite and coco coir chips. You want the soil loose and chunky. My babies as growing good. These I separated from the mother about 7 months ago.
