What is the best way to water a succulent? When I try to ...

That typically means it's gone hyrdrophobic. Soak it for about 15 minutes to reacclimate the soil- my smaller succulents do this often!
@Succulent_Soul this can easily be fixed because your dry soil has become hydrophobic and shrunk away from the pot sides. Fix it by bottom watering, adding fresh topsoil, or soaking the entire pot.How to Fix Dry, Water-Repelling SoilBottom Water: Place your succulent pot in a bowl of water for 20 to 30 minutes so the roots and soil absorb moisture upward through the drainage hole.Fill the Gaps: Add fresh, dry succulent potting mix to the top and edges of the pot to fill any open gaps around the sides.Soak the Pot: Submerge the entire pot in a basin of water until the soil stops bubbling and feels heavy with moisture.Water Slowly: Pour a tiny bit of water at a time, letting it sit for a few minutes to break the surface tension before adding more.
