Brown spots?

#Caladium hi everyone!! My girl was doing fantastic and suddenly started developing these brown spots. Nothing has significantly changed, other than it being winter. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks!!
Hi Amanda!

My guess is that it is likely trying to go through its natural winter dormancy period!

It's a bummer, but also fun to watch your plant come back every year! I'd recommend letting it go dormant by allowing the soil to dry and cutting off the leaves as they die back. Then, store the bulb in the soil and pot in a cool, dark place until spring when you'll bring her out and watch her grow again 😍
@PlantMompy thank you! I had no idea!
You're welcome!

There are quite a few plants that do this, think plants with bulbs and some ferns!

You can always try to force it to skip dormancy but it means adjusting the conditions to be absolutely perfect (adding more light, humidity, etc) so it never realizes the season changes. It can be a fun challenge, but it's much easier to let it do its natural thing.

I currently have four Boston ferns and two begonias in my basement next to my strawberry plants and I let my amaryllis go dormant, too!
@Aoarias915 did you let it go dormant? Mine looks the same up is putting out new leaves! I don’t know what to do
