Mealy bugs
How do I get rid of Mealy bugs!? I have a ponytail palm that is about 15 years old and when I brought another plant in that had Mealy bugs they transferred to the ponytail palm. How do I get rid of them! I spray neem oil on the palm regularly. And I’ve used a systemic insect control. But the palm doesn’t look so good these days. I really would hate to lose it. Help!
@petalpoet Hi and Welcome to Greg!
The best and easiest way to get rid of mealybugs is rubbing alcohol. Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and simply wipe them off. Depending on the severity, you may need to do it again, but generally that gets rid of them. The alcohol kills the adults and larvae.
I'd hate for you to lose that beautiful Ponytail also so I really hope this helps and Good Luck 🍀

@Lifeis2short thank you! I’ll give it a try. It seems they are down in the areas where new growth comes out. They are so insidious!
Hi 👋🏻 welcome! I also use a tip with alcohol to remove the visible ones then I mix one part water with one part 70% alcohol and a few drops of dawn dish soap, and spray my plant down, I’ll repeat this a few days until I don’t see them anymore. But you might want to spot check first incase your plant is sensitive. Good luck!!
