Kitchen Gardens

Do any of you have a kitchen garden? I would love to see pics, and see how you’re tackling things. When the summer outdoor garden comes to an end, I’m always a little sad. Nothing beats homegrown food! I have decided to plant some fresh veggies, seasonings and herbs in my kitchen. I cleared off a shelf on a side table to make room for it. I found these rectangle planters for a steal on Amazon and found some saffron bulbs through #HirtsGarden I planted them because I heard they don’t store well, yet I didn’t expect them to bloom because I got them so late! Once they run their course,
I will store them. I am planting my herbs today. I have my spinach and lettuce popping up. Things are looking great! #itrunsinthefamily #KitchenGarden #Spinach #CrimsonRomaine #OakleafLettuce #KitchenHerbGarden blooming">#blooming #SaffronCrocus #Lettuce
I only have house plants in my kitchen at the moment, but I love this!
@nellz4estfairyz here’s to hoping it’s worth it! I think it will be.
@TheOddAsity so does saffron come from crocuses???
@nellz4estfairyz yes! I didn’t know that. I saw some random ad, did some research and lo and behold! The red stamen is the saffron, you pluck it with tweezers. It takes 50 of them to make a tablespoon. i figured i would grow them in containers as a the bulbs double, then put some in my yard. I chose the cut and come again type of lettuce to see how that works. I’ll post more pics as I add more to the set up.
@TheOddAsity wow, 🀯 , that is neat. I think I heard this before somewhere. So is it all crocuses or just certain ones? In march my yard pops with 100s of little purple crocuses. Not in a garden just all through the yard. They’re multiplying like rabbits πŸ‡
@nellz4estfairyz only crocus sativus produces saffron. Colchicum autumnale is known as meadow crocus and they’re poisonous.
