What's up with my aloe?
My aloe is over 3 years old, and has always been very healthy. She still looks quite healthy on the surface, but her stem is very brown and it seems to be starting to wear out/grow narrower. She's also leaning quit a bit, which worries me. Not sure if this is just how she is or some indication of an actual problem. #questions #sickplants #Succulents #PinkBlushAloe #Aloe
Hi Phoebe! I have had quite a few Alie plants, and have 1 young one now. My experience is I always put in a terracotta pot with a chunky succulent/cactus soil and I add lots of Perlite. The terracotta and soil will allow the roots to and soil to breathe. Regular potting soil is too dense and the roots sit in water and rot. Plastic pots donβt allow aeration. If you can switch to a terracotta pot and good draining soil, I think it would help. Just my opinion based on my experience πͺ΄π
@SillyPlantGirl that was the plan, more or less! Do you think she'll be alright for a few days while I wait for the pot & soil to come in?
Also - I'm very much a beginner when it comes to pots. Is this guy terracotta?

@Sunflower159 The blue pot appears to be glazed on the outside. Terracotta pots are usually clay . colored and are not shiny.
@Sunflower159 sorry for the foggy photo- itβs been raining and is super humid. Those are both terracotta. Not the cutest but they work. Your pots are like Joy said- glazed clay. Iβm sure your aloe will be ok. Be sure when you get a new pot, you either stay the same size, or go up an inch from what itβs in- I donβt know what size pot itβs in. Too big of a pot leads to overwatering and that goes to root rot.
@Sunflower159 I was looking at your photos and in the 2nd one- I see you holding that root up with sticks. Is there a reason why the root is so far up out of the soil? And looking at your soil, youβll definitely want to get perlite and add quite a bit to your soil, that will help a lot. Thatβs my soil that I use for my cactus and succulent plants.
@SillyPlantGirl she just grew that way! But I buried her a bit deeper when I repotted her, and used succulent soil.
