Is this what thrips damage looks like?

Is this what thrips damage looks like? I got this rooted cutting yesterday and have been trying to figure out what this is. I inspected it when I opened it and didn’t find any bugs (also shined a flashlight through the plant), and its other two (younger) leaves don’t have this kind of damage.

I’m wondering if maybe it had thrips early on and the problem was resolved before its other two leaves grew? It’s on the oldest leaf, and there is a dark patch on that leaf’s stem that looked like it recovered from the beginning of suffocation/rot at some point (it feels firm). I’ve preemptively treated the plant, but am hoping to find out what caused that damage.

The spots on the leaf in question are rust colored dots and a few black ones, nothing rubs off. My first thought was something between a rust and botyritis but this plant was rare until recently so there aren’t really reliable resources out there for information so I’m just looking at it like any other monstera, thrip damaged seemed like a possibility I needed to consider

First picture is your plant second is one of mine that had thrips… I see some similar patterns where I’m assuming the bugs were dessins off the plant as well…
It does look like thrips damage to me.
Hi there, I just lived the thrips apocalypse at my place lost 28 plants I’m confident to say you got thrips 😭
@Louisxvi the other 2 leaves and my other plants seem ok so far, though I probably won’t know for sure for a few weeks… my hope is that if it is thrip damage that the seller resolved it when the cutting was still rooting.

There are parts that also make me just think of something fungal and the leaves are also sooo dry… one of my other theories is that the seller was regularly coating the plant with isopropyl alcohol or something else to make the leaves super shiny for photos (all their photos were suspiciously shiny) and/or treat pests and they stripped off the plant’s epicuticilar wax, which would make the leaves super dry and create an easy environment for fungus — especially if they have a greenhouse room (I suspect it’s run by some dude hobby growing in his apartment, because their business registration address is an apt in an expensive coop building in my city, it is a tropical zone and that location is spitting distance to the water so they probably have tons of humidity in general at this time of year)

I’m still hopeful it is pest free, I’d expect to be reviews full of enraged comments in that scenario 🤞
I’ve kept them in the moss they shipped in for a few days to let them acclimate, I think I’m going to finally repot this and the adansonii aurea (which looks much better) that I got from that seller in some soil/bark/pumice mix tomorrow so they get more nutrients.
@smushface the best advice I can give is, if the black specs fall off it’s not fungal and I would act fast, it won’t take a few weeks maybe 1-2 weeks I would say the one that infested my home did a number within 3 weeks on all my plants, I would be safe than sorry. These things are really hard to get rid off , but if it’s part of the plant tissue you might be right could be fungal!!
@Louisxvi yeah, I thoroughly rubbed all the spots when I received it and it’s definitely in the leaf and not on it
@smushface then in that case I would say you’re safe it’s a fungal! Thank god for you! The discolouration threw me off little bit!
Update: so far, no pests! I finally had some time to pot them tonight. 1/3 of the roots were rotted, I gave it a close inspection and it otherwise looks ok.

Gave the roots a trim (should’ve taken photos but forgot) and repotted with pumice, akadama, dendrobium orchid bark mix, black gold seedling mix, and I’m adding some Mycorrhizal Fungi (it occurred to me after I finished potting that I have some and it should help it resist the rot and grow new roots). The 2 younger leaves are looking happier and the older one hasn’t gotten worse (is still very dry like it has no epicuticular wax, but it has looked a bit greener on the top side over the past few days). Feeling optimistic 🤞
Rotted roots
@smushface especially after you said it was part of the leaf and looking at the stem as well I’m leaning toward fungal too! I’m really happy to hear you have no found any pest 😇
@smushface this would also explain the fungal issue 😭
