If your plant has been doing well and the only thing that has changed is the amount of time in the pot, I would definitely change the soil.
#BetterLateThanNever for sure. A rule for me is that I (attempt to) repot every two years or when my plant has doubled in size.

FLFs can have a big root system and they need room to stretch and grow. When you repot, you'll eat to go at least two inches larger in diameter and make sure the pot is deep enough for new growth.

Once it's repotted, give it good sunlight and you should start to see new leaves soon!
I’m an aircraft mechanic and would have to say it’s time for an oil change
What are the leaves like that he’s dropping? Green? Yellow? Dry leaves or mushy leaves? A pic would be helpful 😊 First check for pests. Use a magnifying glass πŸ” or strong readers πŸ‘“ because some, like spider mites are teeeeny!
@sarah10orio thank you!
