Kiefer: Now what?

Hello Greg friends; looking for advice on what it is Kiefer here wants next. Obviously we are in a growth mode up top, but how about the lower tier (note color difference between tiers)? Should I detach the top and treat it as its own non-Kiefer separate plant, or is this just how this plant as a whole wishes to proceed? (Also, unrelated but adorable: Check out those two wee barbs up top! โค๏ธ) #pineconecactus #cactusclique

That looks completely normal. New growths on plants are usually different colored like that while they are growing. The coloration on the bottom piece looks like hardwater deposit, which happens when a succulent (such as a cactus) is watered with tap water or other non-rain water that has minerals in it. It is normal and healthy looking from what I can tell ^^
Just remember to only water when all the soil is completely dry. When watering, give the soil a good soak and let it drain. Try not to get the plant's leaves wet as they would rot if they stay wet.

(And only repot to a bigger pot (about 1-2 inches bigger) if the roots are outgrowing the pot. Just in case you needed to know that too :>)
