Hello plant lovers, i have 2 hibiscus . After taking out ...

#tropical Hibiscus#looks dull# silver leaves.
Hi @GourmetGrasspea 👋 I would say that the transition from grow light to direct sunlight was too sudden and it’s sunburnt. The leaves can’t go back to being green again. They’ll eventually turn brown, dry up and fall off. What you need to do is gradually introduce the plant to stronger sunlight. Start with a brighter spot but still protected from direct sun. Then a spot with a little early morning sunlight, like between sunrise and 9:00 am in an east facing window. Then after several days of that try that spot until 10am, extending the time a bit more every week or so. This way the plant has time to adjust and protect itself from stronger sunlight. Hibiscus grown outside are in direct sun ☀️ but they’ve been adapting from day 1️⃣.
@ MariansOasis Thanks for your response. Actually its placed in the west side shady area only but plant is old. Do i need to change its whole pot soil also for new growth? 1 plant is 1yr old and another is may be 4-5 year old
@GourmetGrasspea I prune the root ball every spring . That’s also when I prune any branches that are not in good shape . If it were mine I’d trim it back an inch or more if needed to promote new growth . If you decide to transplant be sure to trim it up around the root ball only . It certainly sounds as if the older one is ready but looking they both could use a repot and trim . My Hibiscus sits in direct sunlight all day . Hold off on fertilizer till they settle in to their new home
@Lovemyplants Thanks for reply. When u say trim around root ball means i should trim around bottom branches not upper ?
@ lovemyplants these upper growing branches should be cut ot no?
@GourmetGrasspea Yes it’s important to prune the top also . Some people shape them I just trim back an inch or so on branches. As for the root ball you wanting trim them back around circumference of the ball itself . So the top is up to you and how you like it done . Good luck
