Is this leaf in a Crystal anthurium normal?
Hi all: this new leaf on my anthurium seems ok but it's also really pale and off-color. I'm trying to figure out if it's normal or if it's a sign of something bad! #CrystalAnthurium #NewLeafAlert

This is normal for anthuriums, some philodendrons, hoyas, heck i think most tropical plants do this. The leaf comes in red as the plant hardens, and will become green again after. The red is due to an antioxidant called anthocyanins which acts as a sunscreen to protect the young leaves from harsh UV rays. It's also the pigment mainly responsible for red, violet and blue in plants. In growers term, we call this sunstressing. It doesn't harm the plant at all, but it does make it pretty. Yours is gorgeous!
