Thrip Identification (and also rant that im sorry for) #H...

Hi all,

Today is my 3rd continuous day of spraying with Biomax 3 in 1 insect, disease & mite control. It says that it’s a systemic insecticide, (I’m really hoping that it is 🥴) but I’m kind of starting to lose my grasp on plant sanity and wondering if I should just bring this plant to the office or move it outside (and subsequently give up on it). Or heavily trim it? Or dig it out from the soil it’s in and wash it down including the roots??? I’m spraying multiple times a day, before this I used 91% isopropyl alcohol + q tips and before that I did fungicide when I thought it was just mildew. I live in a studio and my bathroom isn’t an option, there really isn’t any space. My roommate used to be an avid outdoor gardener and doesn’t believe that pests are a problem and I’m losing my grip on staying sane just a little every day haha

Why do I have thrips on just this plant!? How do I kill them for good without setting my plant on fire? what has everyone’s experiences been with these demons?

Thank you for reading all of this and coming to my Ted talk…or should I say Greg talk??🤡 (I’m sorry) #NewPlantMom #HappyPlants #PestControl
@Persephone 😮 that’s too much stress for you!! Treatment for thrips can be on one day and then about 3 days later. With all your doing it may be overkill. Thrips are nasty critters but it’s not hopeless. It’s important to stick with treatment long enough to capture all of the life cycles. First are you sure it’s thrips? Tiny dark slivers on the plants. And if you shake your plant over a white sheet of paper (or white sink is what I did) they fall off and you can see them. After giving my plant a good shower 🚿 I then treated with Captain Jack’s bug spray. And I did it every weekend for a month. Also used sticky traps (they’re attracted to yellow or blue). My plant is in the same room as other plants but by itself on its own table about 3-4 feet away from the others. So far so good. Try not to get too upset. They are after all plants and they can be replaced. Stress will only hurt you! 😊🤗👍✅
Take a deep breath Claire. Welcome to Greg.
I know it's frustrating, butt you have great advice from @MariansOasis hang in there
Happy growing 🍃🌱🌿🥰
This is how I took care of my thrips less than a week. It’s worked for others!
My suggested treatment when it’s bad is to pull the plant, bag the soil and close it up, sanitize the pot, bathe the plants is a mix of soap and water with a little rubbing alcohol, rinse, Pat dry, repot in fresh mix, treat with neem oil. The trick is to never overwater or water from above unless you have no choice. I know it’s hard. I’ve been there and you’ll get through it. This method is drastic but it’s easier than waiting. I would do all of the handling outdoors so they don’t come in with the soil. Good luck. And Welcome to Greg!
