I think hostas will give you yellow leaves if over water or underwatered or too much direct sun. If it is becoming winter where you are, it is probably dying back. I grow mine outside in the ground. I cut them back to about 2 inches above the ground and clean the soil all around the plant. This allows the plant to get ready for robust growing in the spring.
