Hi Lisa, you can propagate avocado pits. All you need to do is soak an avocado pit in a cup of water for an hour. Peel off for the outside brown layer put it in a small pot with soil about 2/3 of the way with the pointy end sticking up. Cover it with a clear plastic cup or saran wrap and a rubber band around the pot. That will create a little greenhouse inside around the avocado pit. I propagate all my own avocados and I have about a 60% success rate using this method. I never waste my money on expensive avocado plants in a nursery. 🥑🥑
