How do you thin these out

Hi @NiceRuby I found from Google how to do it. I'm personally not familiar with ornamental grasses but the process sounds a bit like dividing daylilies. You'll need to gather together all the grass and tie it to keep it in a tight bunch then give it a good haircut down to about 6" from the ground (sounds scary I know). Then comb through it to remove any dead blades. Dig up the whole thing (still tied up would be easiest I would imagine) then cut/pull it apart into smaller clumps making sure each section has plenty of good roots. Then do as you will with the clumps! Also it said it's best to do this in late winter or early spring. Hope this helps!
They grow in massive clumps and you can divide the clumps. I would do it in the growing months and just take a hatchet or ax to them and pull. (:

You can pull the whole thing out of the ground if you want.

Right before they start growing again, give them a good trim to get rid of all the dead leaves before growing season. They'll look funny for a while, but they should come back majestically.
