how to get rid of gnats in soil?

repotted an aloe plant that was gifted to us and there were so many gnats in the soil. we also bought a golden pothos from lowe’s and repotted it with new soil, and there are already gnats in it πŸ™ we also bought a zevo gnat trap that was advertised as helpful for plants and plugged it in a foot away from our plant stand. we are new to plants and learning how to care for them so any tips regarding gnats/care would be appreciated!! #PestControl
@hex Hi Katie & Alana! I use Microbe-Lift BMC It kills the larva in the soil and it works Great! In a week or so along with your light for the adults, you should be free of those little buggers‼️πŸ₯΄πŸ˜πŸͺ΄
@hex Welcome Katie & Alana! πŸ’šπŸ’š
Best way to prevent them is to bottom water. Stick it in a bucket for 20 minutes. This helps keep the top layer dry and inhospitable to pests lole gnats
When I repotted, adding some layers of orchid bark along with some at the top of the soil, it really helped. Also helps air things out to prevent root rot. I have also sprinkled a bit of cinnamon on the very top of the soil/bark as a preventive measure. Good luck with your new plants! 🫢🏼
Yellow sticky tags for adults. Mosquito Bits (sold at Home Depot and Amazon)to treat the soil for larvae.
@hex I consistently watered all of my plants with mosquito bits for six weeks, took care of all the eggs in the soil. Yellow sticky tags for the adult adults. I have not seen a single. Gnat since 😊
