Dry Roots?

So I got this cutie recently. But this is what the “lightly rooted” looks like. They just feel dry. That’s not normal, right? Those aren’t viable roots? So would my best move be to keep it in water for a while and hope new roots sprout?

I would try to put it in water and propagate it until it has some new roots
I agree with @bellasla

The roots that you see are aerial roots. What you need are soil roots.

I'd pop the stem in some water and give it a few weeks to grow roots. When the roots about about 3" long, you can plant it.
Thank you both. That was my assumption too, but wanted to double check since this is a new plant I’m unfamiliar with. I appreciate it!
