Lantana question

What are those little green ball looking things #outdoorgardens #helpneeded
Best Answer
@Hails42 The little green balls on your lantana are unripe berries (also called seed pods or fruits) that develop after the flowers have been pollinated.
As the flowers on the plant fade, these green, berry-like balls appear. They will eventually mature into shiny, dark purplish-black or blue-black berries.
Toxicity: The unripe green berries are highly toxic to humans, pets, and livestock if ingested. While some reports on ripe (black) berries are conflicting, the green ones are consistently identified as dangerous and can even be fatal.
Allowing these pods to develop signals the plant to stop flowering and focus its energy on seed production. If you want your lantana to keep blooming throughout the season, you should "deadhead" or remove these green pods.
Propagation: Each berry contains a seed. If you want to grow new plants, you must wait until the berries are fully black and ripe before harvesting them. Note that harvested seeds often do not grow into plants that look identical to the parent. I hope this helps. If it were me, I’d be removing the berries to encourage more flowering.
@Shells_Garden thank you very much for the wonderful advice!
