Whatβs wrong with my zz plant?
Hi all, I noticed these marks on my zz plantβs leaves today, as well as some fully dead branches/sprigs ( no clue what theyβre called). I water her about once a month and sheβs not exactly in direct sunlight; sheβs next to a window so she gets some brightness but not directly. Can anyone help diagnose? Should I be watering her more often? Less often? Also not sure what is in the third pic (really hope itβs not an enemy to my plant) #ZzPlant #zzplanthelp
@Succulent_Soul Iβm only seeing it on those two leaves. Is the plant okay to water? Also Iβm afraid to touch whatβs in the third pic lol Iβm really hoping itβs just like a dead leaf
Hi Lucy, judging by the photos. It looks like your plant may have a type of fungus, First I would get it out of the pot. Gently clean off the leaves and repot it in new soil and a new pot. Make sure it gets good drainage and is in a compatible soil with a neutral Ph. Next spray the plant with copper fungicide. The copper fungicide will not kill the fungus on the affected leaves however it will stop it from spreading. Also isolate your plant until it is past this. I hope this helps. Good luck π
@Lalaluluj Hi Lucy π
A month seems like a long time between waterings, so Iβm wondering if this is oedema damage caused by underwatering, or perhaps your soil might be a bit too heavy and retaining too much water.
Can you tell me if you check the soil before watering? Do you wait for the soil to dry out thoroughly before you water again, or do you wait for just a few inches to dry out?
The last picture is most likely a harmless soil fungus that makes little mushrooms. But if I recall correctly, they might be toxic to consume, so I would pull it out if you have pets or small humans that might try to put it in their mouths.
And Iβll tag @SuperbRaspfern to see what she thinks is going on here πβοΈππ»

@DreamMachine yeah I always dip my finger into the soil and water if itβs completely dry. Not just the surface though, I stick my finger into a couple inches in. Also a mushroom?! π« so the marks on the leaves and the dying branches could be because of under watering? My poor plant :(
@Lalaluluj yes, it should be fine to water and hopefully nothing is wrong with it
