Does salt hurt Marimo moss?

I spotted some pests in my new Marimo moss balls that were originally in a fish tank and I soaked it in salt for 15 minutes to kill them. Does salt hurt Marimo moss and does it get rid of pests? #PestControl #NewPlantMom #PlantCorner #PlantMoms

@Honeybee127 Hey there. I'm not a moss ball expert but I may know somebody that might help. @Seymour Could you have an idea? Anyways. I do know that salt it perfectly fine for moss balls, but they don't like too much of it! Just like sugar, little bit of it, we like but too much can be harmful! I also just did research on what else you could do to help kill the pests. It says freeze them. For 2 hours! Your probably thinking it will kill them, but the only thing it will be killing is the pests and bacteria... Interesting!
Hi! I have marimo and would rinse them in filtered water that’s really cold and then change the water. I wouldn’t leave them in water which has salt at all. What pests are you worried about?

Hi Honeybee (great name and picture), a safer option may have been hydrogen peroxide (3%) diluted as this is often used with moss products as usually moss do not like salt and prefer to be relatively mineral free. And H2O2 tends to kill pests and fungus/mold in moss.
However, as Sarah suggests, really all you can do now is to flush out all the salt although I would recommend distilled water as it is mineral free.
Normally the only way to measure salt or minerals in water is a TDS meter.
But even plain water in time will rinse out the majority of salt and your moss may suffer no I'll effects.
