Growing a Bonsai Tree

Anyone on here growing a bonsai tree? I wanna start growing one but don’t know how hard they are to grow. Are they hard to keep alive? Do they need anything special? #Bonsai #BonsaiTrees #PlantsMakePeopleHappy
It all depends what type of tree you get as far as hard. My Fukien tea tree is extremely fussy but now that I have it figured out he’s pretty laid back. I also have a lavender star tree that just was not thriving. I moved it outside and now it’s doing great. Junipers need to be outside. Key things are: soil, watering and outside time. No matter the size they are still trees. Good luck if you choose to get one.
#Bonsai #BonsaiTrees added some hashtags to see if others have more info.
@PricklyThumb is right- some hashtags can help others see your post but they need to be in the body of your post. You can edit your post with the three dots at the top. (:
Shyan- what kind are you thinking about? Experience (and messing up) is a good teacher. I have several I've working on, but it is a LABOR of love and you'll need to pack your patience. (:
@sarah10orio thanks, I did that now 😊 I added a few of them ❤️
#BrazilianRainTree
#Nandina (in the works)
#ElephantBush (super easy! Needs a trim)
#Schefflera

My brain has forgotten the name of this one! (Work in progress)
#WhiteCedar ... I think. I'll have to look it up
#Chestnut
#figtree (work in progress)
Those are a few that I'm working on. Are you planning on buying one or doing one yourself?
I started growing Bonsai trees from a kit on Amazon. My best suggestion would be study in the trees your sowing. Read as many books on Bonsai as you can. Here are my babies

Advice given to me by a very seasoned bonsai enthusiast: “if you want to get into bonsai, get yourself one tree and don’t do anything with it for a year other than figure out how to keep it alive, then make it thrive. Once you get that down you can start experimenting with shaping/bending/etc.”. I highly recommend the “r/bonsai” subReddit - I read through it a couple times a week and there are some very knowledgeable and really helpful people on there. Mostly there’s just a wealth of knowledge on there that will give you a good idea what the hobby entails, etc.
I've had a ficus since 2021. It's been a great beginner bonsai for me. Also it's one of the cheaper ones.
That's great advice from Chris @garypoopins) btw! Lol I started with a Fukien Tea, which was half dead when it arrived and I've been slowly and gradually trying not to kill it for almost a year now 🤣🤣 but yes, get ONE and read, read, READ! 💚 They're hugely rewarding but totally unlike any other plant I have!! They're fussy in the extreme, need to be damp but not wet, needs LOTS of light and LOTS of humidity and even then they might not be happy! Lmao 🤣 water slightly too often or slightly too infrequently and they will show their displeasure by dumping all their leaves.

The soil is also Really important, you can't just put them in potting soil (well, mine won't take it, that's what she came in and as soon as I got her into a really rocky mix of akadama, lava rock, grit and just a tiny touch of coir she took off! 🥰).

Mine is also currently (almost) blooming! Lol but it's been hit and miss even with this... She's had buds for ages, some have opened (they only last a day then dry up) others have shriveled before opening... I'm still learning! Lol 🤣🤣 but I do love her 🤩 xx
